Willis Reels Off Six Straight Birdies
Willis Reels Off Six Straight Birdies
Garrett Willis' devotion to his old putter paid off as he reeled of six birdies in a row en route to a seven-under 64 and the first-round lead in The Heritage. The American, who has struggled with his putting this season, had planned to put a new putter Golf Is Often Belonging To Young Man in his bag, but at the last minute Thursday he told his caddie to get "Old Faithful" from the car."Old Faithful" and Willis certainly got the job done, with a string of six straight birdies from the second hole at Harbour Town.He had three more birdies and two bogeys to take the lead in a round that was suspended by darkness after an earlier rain delay.Willis planned to switch to a belly putter this week but stuck with his longtime putter, which he calls Old Faithful. That paid off as Willis moved in front with his birdie run and broke free of a pack at six under with a 15-footer for birdie on No. 16. Garrett Willis had a run of six straight birdies for a seven-under-par 64 and a one-stroke lead at the Heritage in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Willis was a shot in front of Arjun Atwal, Matt Bettencourt, Chad Campbell and Tim Herron. Obviously, very excited about putting this well, and having a chance to making the cut for a change," said Willis, whose only prior US PGA Tour title came at Tucson in 2001 -- which was his first tour start. He dropped to 228th on the PGA Tour money list in 2005 and regained his card in 2009 with a 12th-place finish on the developmental Nationwide Tour money list. This season Willis has made just two cuts in eight starts.

The competition between Rory McElroy and Tiger Woods
The competition between Rory McElroy and Tiger Woods
The 21-year-old McElroy has the same demeanor as another former phenom at the age of 21, Tiger Woods. The similarities do not end with their early success. McElroy was unafraid of a potential run by the legendary Tiger Woods on the final day of The Masters and many said his poke at the sleeping giant would come back to bite him.McIlroy Tiger Said The Swing Change Does Work meant nothing by his comment the week of The Masters. In fact, McElroy made the statement as a matter of fact. He believed in himself and in golf that is the key to success. Once a golfer allows his critics and his competitors into his head that golfer is defeated. This is true for golfing in a PGA major or playing the local muni course with buddies for 10 bucks a hole.Tiger Woods learned a lot from The Masters as well. He will never admit it but the comment by McElroy had to give him a not so gentle kick in pants. Woods was no longer feared. A 21-year-old kid was not shaking in his golf shoes as the final round approached. Woods was once again motivated and inspired.
The fact that McElroy collapsed on the final day was not lost on Tiger. Woods may not have won The Masters but he opened a chink in the armor of the young ball striker, McElroy. These two will meet again and it will be eerily similar. They are both on a collision course for the U.S. Open to be held on the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda , Maryland , this June.Woods won the last event he played on the course. The 2009 AT&T National was won by an aggressive Tiger Woods that year. With a golf major on the line this June, this could be Woods perfect opportunity to break his drought and pick up his 15th major.

How to first determine the speed then the break
How to first determine the speed then the break
Today we discuss long putts and how to first determine the speed then the break. Most golfers look at the break first. I first have to make a decision on how fast I’m willing to roll the ball before I decide how much break or curvature the ball will take over the surface it has to cover. The slower I roll the ball the more it will break or curve.I look at the green from 150 yards first to see any tendencies of lean one way or the other. If I threw a bucket of water on that green which way would it flow off?Once reaching the green you need to look at the putt from both Tiger Said The Swing Change Does Work sides to gather all the information you can about the surface you are about to roll the ball on. I suggest that you drive your golf cart to the back of the green each time, (being that most golfers leave their ball short of the hole on approach) and then walk around the back of the putt first. Try walking a half moon circle around the putt rather than straight to the ball. Look at how the green leans. Understand that the designer of the green had to account for water to flow off the green for drainage purposes. Find the area of drainage and you’ll have the keys to the “lean” of the green.
Look at the coloration of the green. Is the color a deep dark green and thick or is it light brown with very thin grass blades? Is it up hill or down? Is there a ridge where the ball will speed up on you and run by the hole? Make a determination while walking around the hole as to how fast you need to roll the ball.

Is Long Putter a welcome tool for golfers
Is Long Putter a welcome tool for golfers
Tom Watson declared that “it is not a golf stroke.” Other pros have been far more critical than that, ridiculing the long putter as a cheating broomstick. Whether the long putter is jammed under the chin, pressed against the sternum or poked into the stomach, for many purists the problem is that it is touching some part of the body other than the hands. The United States Golf Association, which oversees the rules in North America, has disagreed and that’s why long putters are permissible wherever golf is played. But permissible does not always Tiger Woods Teaches Korean Youth Golfers mean accepted. Some in the golf community wondered if a Scott victory at the Masters might even spur a backlash to have the long putter finally banned. When they first came out, I agreed with Watson and I still find long putters odd. I doubt I could ever see myself using one. But the argument about their being placed against the body seems specious. Many people putt with standard putters held against their forearm and have been doing so for decades. That’s not holding the club in the hands, either, and it’s not illegal. In fact, no one says anything about that putting style.
It’s only a matter of time before a major champion is crowned using a long putter, and I suspect the world will not end. Golf will go on. Golf purity is a worthy cause, but the game simply can’t take itself too seriously. It is already very good at that. The game needs all the golfers it can get. If long putters help some people with the yips enjoy the game more, or if it protects the cranky, ailing backs of some of our golfing elders and lets them play more often, then it is a welcome tool.
